چکیده

In this paper, we establish the causality between the model coefficients in the standard pressure-strain correlation model and the predicted equilibrium states for homogeneous turbulence. We accomplish this by performing a comprehensive fixed point analysis of the modeled Reynolds stress and dissipation rate equations. The results from this analysis will be very useful for developing improved pressurestrain correlation models to yield observed equilibrium behavior.

Time Evolution of Modeled Reynolds Stresses in Planar Homogeneous Flows

The analytic expression of the time evolution of the Reynolds stress anisotropy tensor in all planar homogeneous ows is obtained by exact integration of the modeled di erential Reynolds stress equations. The procedure is based on results of tensor representation theory, is applicable for general pressure-strain correlation tensors, and can account for any additional turbulence anisotropy e ects...

Progress in Favré-Reynolds Stress Closures for Compressible Flows

A closure for the compressible portion of the pressure-strain covariance is developed. It is shown that, within the context of a pressure-strain closure assumption linear in the Reynolds stresses, an expression for the pressure-dilatation can be used to construct a representation for the pressure-strain. Additional closures for the unclosed terms in the Favré-Reynolds stress equations involving...

Reynolds Stress Closure Including Nonlocal and Nonequilibrium Effects in Turbulent Flows

A new Reynolds stress anisotropy closure that includes nonlocal and nonequilibrium effects in turbulent flows has been obtained from a recently proposed nonlocal anisotropy formulation. This formulation is based on a new nonlocal derivation of the rapid pressurestrain correlation, which rigorously accounts for nonlocal effects on the anisotropy due to spatial variations in the mean velocity gra...

Development of a Low Cost and Safe PIV for Mean Flow Velocity and Reynolds Stress Measurements

In this study, a white light particle image velocimetry (WL PIV) system which employs a light sheet generated with a flash was used. The system was developed in order to provide a cost-efficient and safe alternative to laser systems while keeping the accuracy limits required for hydraulic model tests. To investigate the accuracy of WL PIV method under different flow conditions, experiments were...

Verification of Reynolds stress parameterizations from simulations

Key words hydrodynamics – methods: numerical – turbulence We determine the timescales associated with turbulent decay and isotropization in closure models using anisotropically forced and freely decaying turbulence simulations and study the applicability of these models. We compare the results from anisotropically forced three-dimensional numerical simulations with the predictions of the closur...
